W latach 20. i 30. XX wieku art deco opanowało niemalże każdą sferę istnienia człowieka. Styl ten górował nie tylko w malarstwie, jako obrazy i akty, architekturze, ale także we wzornictwie taśmowym, zdobień wnętrz i modzie. Prąd art déco był przeciwdziałaniem na secesję, objawem buntu w stosunku do standardowego dla sztuki secesyjnej niedostatku postaci przestrzennej.
